2021 VFX Reel

A reel showing VFX work I've done from 2016 to 2021.

Special thanks to Gabe Schaffer (https://www.youtube.com/c/GabeSchaffer) for the music!

See images below for descriptions of work I did for each shot.

I modeled, groomed, and posed this bug. All work is mine (except for CC0 textures/environment lights). See https://www.artstation.com/artwork/PmyDZy

I created all compositing effects (with the exception of a film grain node, made by cgvirus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQHmYJh-uvQ)

I modeled the headphones in Blender and Houdini. I took the photo with a DSLR, textured in Substance Painter, shaded in Renderman (in Houdini), and composited in Nuke! I even shot my own HDRi using a 360 camera at 5 different exposures

I created a lens in 3D and motion tracked the glasses (for reflection)

I did the rotoscoping, fracture simulation, spark particle simulation, rigid body simulation, and smoke simulation

(The up close shot of the hole in the wall is a physical prop)

I simulated the fire effects and modeled/animated the wood. I also composited it onto background footage with a shadow catcher

I animated, textured, and modeled everything seen here in this shot (textures were created from public domain images or are procedural, some small modeled elements are CC0 kitbash items)

I used dynamic paint for slice marks, 3D camera solving, compositing, particle effects. All work is my own.

I assembled full 3D scene, created all materials, and composited

Includes Interplanetary Cargo Ship model (Spacehead), Quad Mech Model (MillionthVector), and Space Explorer Model (Spacehead), each under CC (3.0) on Blendswap

I simulated the crumbs with Houdini scattering. All textures are CC0 or royalty free. The spoon model is royalty free. All other work is my own. (For more info, see https://www.artstation.com/artwork/5B8QAw)

I created a Python script to maintain camera distance/focal length (see https://github.com/AnsonSavage/Focal_Lock)

The car (CC0, Mike Pan) and fox (CC-BY-SA, artstation.com/dbystedt) scenes are not mine
